Product Spotlight: Yakima StageTwo

Yakima StageTwo is a premium, heavy duty, platform style hitch mounted bike rack. It got a refresh for 2025, sporting a new color (Slate instead of Vapor), higher RV weight capacity, the ability to fit fat bikes out of the box, and a few other aesthetic tweaks. Otherwise, the discontinued 2021-2024 and 2025 models remain quite similar function and feature-wise.

Yakima StageTwo Folded Up

Starting with vehicle compatibility, the StageTwo comes in dedicated 2” and 1.25” versions. A locking SpeedKnob keeps the rack rattle-free and theft deterrent, with a side pin acting as an additional safety mechanism. Tilting the rack down for hatch access is no problem thanks to the remote handle. The available SafetyMate lighting and plate kit keeps all indicators visible.

Yakima StageTwo Platform

The StageTwo supports bikes up to 70 pounds each for road driving conditions. Off-road ratings are 42 pounds per bike. The discontinued model supports 60 pound bikes on an RV, and the new model 70 pounds (make sure to check Yakima’s definition and guidelines for an RV). The +2 add-on (compatible only with 2” models and hitch receivers) drops these ratings slightly, which varies depending on the model and use. Weighing in around 65 pounds (more with the +2 add-on), StageTwo is a burly rack!

Yakima StageTwo Hook Gravel Tire

Bicycle wheelbases up to 52” are accommodated. Wheel sizes from 20-29” and tires up to 3.25” wide fit in the discontinued model, but up to 5” can be used with the Fat Bike Kit. The updated model fits fat tires out of the box. As with most front wheel hook style racks, front fenders do not fit.

Yakima StageTwo Plus Tire with Lock

In use, loading bikes is quick and straightforward. For easier loading, the available RampUp ramp kit allows the bikes to be pushed right into place, which is especially useful for ebikes. The trays can be adjusted side to side to provide handlebar and saddle clearance. Locking cables retract in and out of the arms to lock the bikes to the rack.

Yakima StageTwo is full-featured and ready for your next adventure!
