Yakima HoldUp

Product Spotlight: Yakima HoldUp

Yakima HoldUp debuted in 2008. With some slight updates in 2009 and 2013, it has remained largely unchanged. And that’s for good reason: it’s an easy to use platform style hitch mounted bike rack that fits a wide variety of bikes.

Let’s start with the specs. The HoldUp comes in dedicated 2” (8002443) or 1.25” (8002445) hitch receiver options. Wheel sizes from 20-29” and tires up to 3” wide will be held securely. It supports bikes up to 60 pounds (200 pound total capacity with 4 bikes) and 48” wheelbases. The rack weighs 40 pounds and includes locks to secure the rack to the vehicle and cable locks for the bikes.

Loading bikes is easy thanks to a hook that goes over the front wheel and a single wheelstrap for the back wheel. The trays can be adjusted side to side to help ease any bike contact between handlebars and saddles.

HoldUp tilts into 3 positions: folded up against the vehicle, flat for use, and down away to allow for better hatch clearance with bikes loaded.

Need to carry more bikes? The 2” model HoldUp is compatible with the HoldUp +2 Add-on (8002446) as well as the HoldUp Evo +2 (8002482), allowing you to carry 4 bikes total.

Yakima HoldUp has all the features you need, without overstepping into premium territory. You don’t get ramps, lights, wheels, SpeedKnobs, or remote tilt handles. The upgraded HoldUp Evo introduced some of these features from 2018-2024, such as fat bike compatibility, SpeedKnob, and remote tilt access, but the standard HoldUp lives on as a rack that is uncomplicated and built for years of trusty service.
