Shop Services: Cargo Box Repair

At ReRack, we strive to keep racks out of the landfill and on the road. If your trusty cargo box suffered an impact and now has a crack, a hole, or other damaged parts, we may be able to save it! 

There are a number of cargo box repairs we are proud to offer, including:

• ABS plastic welding
• Hinge/latch repair or replacement
• Handle replacement
• Front & rear lid support replacement
• Broken keys stuck inside the lock

For the past several years, we have been perfecting our ABS plastic welding. This allows us to seal cracks as well as create patches for larger holes. Most cracks and holes on both the lid and the base can be repaired, even on corners and curved portions. 

If a box is crushed beyond repair, we would be happy to recycle the box for you. We will remove useful parts and recycle the ABS plastic. Allowing us to recycle and strip the box helps keep the next one on the road by providing essential replacement parts. 

These removed parts allow us to offer additional repair and replacement services, since many of these parts are not available directly from the manufacturer as spares. We have a good collection of otherwise unavailable parts, including hinges, latches, and handles, primarily for Thule and Yakima cargo boxes manufactured within the past 10 or so years. We try to keep other replacement parts in stock, including replacement lid supports, handles, and keys. 

If you have a broken or damaged cargo box, feel free to bring it to our Portland retail store or send us a message with some pictures. Our shop technicians will reply with a repair estimate, or offer to recycle the box if we don’t have the parts or if it looks too far damaged for repair. We also offer cargo box trade-ins, and may be able to provide some credit for your old box towards the purchase of a new (or new-to-you) cargo box.
