New, Return, Used - What to expect

At ReRack, we want to get you the gear that best meets your needs at the best price possible. We are proud to be authorized dealers for top brands such as Thule, Yakima, and Kuat, allowing us to offer brand new gear for your rig. 

But we don’t only carry new equipment. Since ReRack’s founding in 2008, we have been buying, trading, and selling used gear. Not only does this help keep items out of the landfill, it also allows us to offer quality racks at the best price around. 

New

New items are as they came from the factory, complete with a manufacturer’s warranty. These are the same products you’ll find from other authorized dealers, except we want you to end up with the rack that works best for you, not just the most expensive option. 

Return

Return items can be thought of as “open box” or “like new”. These might be items that we sold as new and were returned to us, but we also get returned items directly from manufacturers and, occasionally, from other retailers. As such, we cannot predict when something will come back in stock

Our Raxperts thoroughly check Return items to make sure they are complete and fully functional. If something does arrive broken or with a missing part, contact us and we’ll get it sorted straight away!

Return racks aesthetically fall somewhere between New and Used condition items. They have not seen road use, but they may have been sold before and taken out of their packaging. Shipping scuffs or imperfections are not uncommon. By the time you get a New rack out of the box and onto your vehicle, it will probably look pretty similar to how you’ll receive a Return condition rack. 

One important note about Return items is that they do not include a manufacturer warranty. Typically, if anything is wrong with a rack, it will be noticed within the first couple uses and we can help solve the issue. But after it’s been used a handful of times, our ability to support issues that pop up is limited, so we ask that you thoroughly check out the rack within the 30 day return window. The exception to this are certain Kuat items which will show a drop down option on the product page if we can offer a manufacturer warranty on that specific item.

Kuat condition

If you’ve found us on Amazon, you may have seen conditions such as “Used-like new” and “Refurbished”. Those conditional notes will vary depending on the Amazon category, but both of these conditions correspond to Return condition racks. 

Used

Used items have seen road use and may have blemishes, dings, and marks that should not affect their performance. We try to clean them up, but racks that have lived on cars for a while will still have fading, stubborn dirt, and maybe even some bugs if you’re lucky.

Used items that are at the shop (as opposed to our shipping warehouse) may not have all of their factory accessories. For example, a ski rack that originally came with universal clamps and T-slot hardware may only have the universal hardware and vice versa. Basic tools like allen or box wrenches may also not be included, but specialty tools like a security torx wrench will be. When you’re at the retail store, this is simple to see, but this is one reason why not every used item that is on hand at the retail store is available for shipping, or may have a caveat once requested. 

Unfortunately, we cannot photo every used rack that is listed online. When we have our own photographs on the product pages for used items, we try to find an item that is indicative of the general condition of the item you might receive. Like Return items, we cannot predict when a Used item might come back in stock.
